JENNIE NEWMAN & GERALDINE PILLINGER

The forest floor from an urban experience is not pristine, but rather a hybrid of natural & human influences. It’s a story of the fine balance between harmony & disunity; life & death; order & chaos. The forest floor is urbanized and encroached upon by human activity, ‘cut-up’ by transportation, industry & other human interventions.

Despite all these other influences, experiencing the forest floor remains a grounding experience, a source for contemplation, inspiration and connection to life.

Artisits

Geraldine Pillinger is a practising musician and works intuitively to gain a sense of connectivity and response to her community & surroundings.

Jennie Newman is a Perth based artist who works in various media including paint, textiles, drawing and sound. In this collaboration with Geraldine she is able to pursue her love of drawing and observation, with her passion for creating sound scapes. There has been an intimacy involved with creating this work that I hope is evident to our audience.

Geraldine & Jennie have worked on several visual, sound & multi-media projects together including:

‘Amalgam’ a performance & exhibition at Monart Gallery, Perth in 2005

‘US to Tel Aviv’ a soundscape for a short play written & directed by Vivienne Glance, performed at Perth International Contemporary Art, 2005
