CLARE BESTOW

Having grown up in the jarrah forest of the Darling Scarp east of Perth,
the theme The Forest Floor resonates deeply. My response could not help but
be rather concrete, exposing the extraordinary silhouette's, and fanciful
fruits that lie within. Inherent within this nature is a unique harshness -
sharp and jagged and the omnipresent threat of fire. An Australian childhood
also meant exposure to the ubiquitous May Gibbs, and her Gumnut babies.
These fleeting images also informed my work for this exhibition, that cannot
help but be a celebration of that which gives us a sense of place.

Work

A lifetime passion for creativity, in particular textiles and fashion, has
gathered momentum over the last 4 years. This confidence has been nurtured
by joining with a like minded group of artists who critique, encourage and
focus my art practice.
